This is a very important week for our group. We have given the pedometers to PS1 and our now waiting for the results of the competition. On Wednesday the students will walk a normal amount of steps. Then there teacher will announce that it is a competition. Then they will try to increase their steps on Thursday We will then track all of the percent increase and whoever wins will get a prize. This will encourage kids to exercise. We went to PS1 to talk to the kids and see if they liked the competition. We were excited to have learned that most of the kids had increased their steps. We were excited to learn that they enjoyed the competition. We will be giving the pedometers to PS1 so the kids can continue to stay fit. This was a great experience and it was really fun to meet and converse with all of the kids.
This was a very exciting week. We finally got a confirmation from Holly the sixth grade teacher at PS1. We are so excited to do this project with PS1. We will drop off the pedometers along with instructions for her to give to the kids. They will then spend two days walking normally and two days trying to increase their steps. Right now we are getting prizes for the top three. This competition will not be based on steps but based on percent increase. We are having a great time and are looking forward to working with these kids. We are dropping the pedometers friday. After we drop them off we will wait and collect the data through a google form we gave to holly. Overall this has been a great week and we are looking forward to getting the results and seeing if the competition worked.
This week we were very productive. We ordered and received the pedometers. We have been exchanging emails with PS1. We are awaiting a thumbs up from PS1 but we are pretty confident they will say yes. In the meantime we are working on are website and will be creating a survey to track percent increase. Once we get the thumbs up from PS1 we will go the school and give the students pedometers. Overall our group is working very well together. We are almost done devolving our idea and are almost ready to implement our idea
In the beginning our group had many different ideas of what we wanted to do. After our first mind map we narrowed our topic down to lack of fitness. Then with a few more mind maps we decided to try to solve the problem of lack of P.E. In schools. We picked this problem because recently schools have been cutting down on funding for P.E. programs. We then started to develop our idea. We wanted to come up with an idea that motivate kids to stay fit and to make fitness fun. We came up with a fitness competition for kids. We then got a lot of good feedback from our teachers and then decided to buy pedometers with wristbands. To buy these we will use some money in the windward CBL budget. We will give them out to a school and the kids will track their steps without knowing that we are having a competition. After 1-2 days we will tell them the competition has begun and they will start trying to get more steps. After a week the two kids with the largest percent increase will get a prize. Overall all three group members are participating and are putting forth an equal amount of work.
